France is an European country whose education is very developed.As all known,it has "two higer education system", which is the university and the grand college. French grand college was boom after French Revolution,which has five stages.The First stage (before French Revolution);it has seed;The Second stage(Napoleon time):French was boom,when Ecole Normale Superieure and Ecole Polytechnique, as cases of my paper, were born;The Third stage(1814-1914)because of Industrial Revolution in England,French grand collegehad been develop.The number increased from 7 to 85,and with the science and technology developing, new discipline was continuesly emerging. In the field of region,the development of French grand college also broke the monopolistic position,which once was hold by Paris; The Forth stage(1914-1945)in World II,grand college developed slowly,which has no new characteristics;From 1945 to now grand college is experiencing the Fifth stage.This paper analyses the tradition ,the innovation and the characteristic,which uses Ecole Normale Superieure and Ecole Polytechniqueas concrete cases.Although grand college has experienced many ups and downs,has many changes and has received many disputes,it brings up many well-known men from 200 to now,which still holds a very importment position in French higer education system.Relating the reality of our country, we are devoting in building one batch of world-class research university form 20th, which can compete with other famous university in other countrys.In my view,it's worthwhile.Building one-class university and the popularity of higer education is parallel.In the third chapter,I discussed the experiences and enlightenments,and state some suggestions,which I hope it will do.
