Primary English teaching is the basis of elementary education, the initiation period of the English education, and the crucial stage of cultivating and creating the talented person. As the main media of the primary English teaching activities, the textbook of primary English plays the vital role in teaching. With the development of policy to diversity versions in textbooks, promulgation and implementation of the new National English Curriculum Standards, the analysis on the primary English textbook appears more and more important.Primary English published by the Science and Popular Press is the analysis object of this dissertation, which aims at whether it accords with the new curriculum reforms, whether it embodies the changes and updates the new educational ideal, whether it can help to cultivate the pupils' integrated language skills. Moreover, the dissertation researches where the textbook needs improving and how the teachers get to know the textbook and how to use it.This dissertation is divided into five chapters. Chapter One consists of five sections, which covers the background, significance, methods, some terms and the structure of the dissertation. Chapter Two and Chapter Three are the theoretical basis. Chapter Two summarizes the research on the evaluation of English teaching materials evaluation at home and abroad. Chapter Three outlines the psychological development and English studying characteristics of the pupils. Chapter Four is the main part of the dissertation, which analyzes the set of the textbooks from the macrocosmic point of view, especially its guiding principles, the structures of the textbook, the way to build the textbook; and also discusses how the textbook cultivates the pupils' language skills from the microcosmic point of view, that is, listening, speaking, reading and writing, and then analyzes how the textbook promotes the pupils' linguistry from phonetic, vocabulary, grammar and topic. Chapter Five presents the conclusion of the dissertation according to the analysis and puts forward some suggestions on how to edit and teach the primary English.
