A Research On Entrepreneurship Education In American Universities

Entrepreneurship education is a new education concept put forward by Western countries in the later of 1970s. The goal of entrepreneurship education is to cultivate creative people with the sense of entrepreneurship, exploring spirit and entrepreneurship capacity. It is not only an important reform measure that education actively adapts itself to the economic development in today's education field, but also a trend in the development of international higher education.As the earliest country who develops entrepreneurship education in the world, American universities launch courses on entrepreneurship education in 1947. During the past half century, their entrepreneurship education has formed into a perfect system. In China, it is also an inevitable trend of education system reform and university transform to launch entrepreneurship education, and an effective solution to solve the problem of unemployment. Therefore, we can get important referential experience from the study of university transformation in American universities.The first chapter analyses the process of development from the initial period, developing period to perfect period; then indicates the definition of entrepreneurship education, and compares it with innovative education, career education and specialized education; as well as discusses about the economic background, political background, cultural background and school background of the birth of entrepreneurship education in American universities.The second chapter is the key part of this thesis, introducing the implementation of entrepreneurship education in American universities in details, with the focus on education goal, national standard, curriculum provision, teaching mode, organizational structure, evaluation system and entrepreneurship study.The third chapter is the supplementary of the former chapter. It respectively discusses entrepreneurship education in Babson University, Stanford University and Harvard University with the method of case-study, in particular their curriculum, and summarizes the character of entrepreneurship education in American universities.The forth chapter firstly introduces the current situation of entrepreneurship education in Chinese universities, points out the existing problems, then discusses about the strategy and method of lunching entrepreneurship education in Chinese universities. The thesis puts forwards specific suggestions to promote the development of entrepreneurship education in Chinese universities from five points: establishing the education concept of cultivating creative people; constructing an complete curriculum system of entrepreneurship education; forming a joint teaching mode of enterprises and universities; strengthening the construction of teachers team in entrepreneurship education and building start-up industrial parks in universities.
