A Study Of Campus Security In Universities Having Several Campuses

Campus security is a hot issue in current higher education, and is one of the problems easily causing much public concern. There might be a variety of reasons for the accidents happening frequently on campuses, but the current situation of running the same university on several campuses undoubtedly poses a great challenge to the security management work in universities. Zhejiang Taizhou University is such a university. It is a newly established local university offering undergraduate programs on 3 campuses in two different places. Taking Taizhou University as an example, this thesis will discuss the problems of security management in universities having several campuses, in the hope of providing trains of thought and counter-measures concerning the security management in universities having several campuses.This thesis is composed of 4 major parts.Part One, which is an introduction, fixes the theme of this study, and defines its scope and research methods. In addition, this part sorts out and classifies the relevant existing references, thus providing a knowledge basis for research.Part Two takes Taizhou University, a local university offering undergraduate programs on 3 campuses in 2 places, as an example, and analyzes the status quo of campus security in universities. By means of a variety of methods, including questionnaires and interviews, this study analyzes the overall condition of security, the sources of the hidden dangers concerning security, the makeup of the man power and system in security management, security education as well as the treatment of the injury accidents to the students.Part Three analyzes the various factors affecting the security management on the campuses in Taizhou University. With the pattern of running the same university on several campuses, the campuses are large in scope and scattered, the traffic among the several campuses is inconvenient, the students often have to be on the move, cultural transmission becomes difficult, and interaction between teachers and students is lacking. These are among the important factors affecting the security management on campuses.And Part Four offers a number of counter-measures concerning the strengthening of the campus security management. Some new trains of thoughts are offered concerning the security management of several campuses, including strengthening the organization and establishing a security management network, establishing a new mechanism on the security management of several campuses, working in cooperation with the various public security departments outside the university, adopting new methods in the security management of several campuses, and bringing about success in campus security work by relying on the masses.
