On The Issue Of Equal Chances For Higher Education

The issue of equal chances for higher education has a great impact on the overall development of China's education and the whole society. As Zhejiang Province is a developed region in China, to study its current situation of equal chances for higher education will offer valuable reference for further development of Zhejiang's and other provinces' education. The study on the unbalanced situation in chances for higher education in Zhejiang's different classes will provide statistic support to future compensatory measures made for education and be vital and necessary to prevent the gap increase between the rich and the poor, to protect disadvantaged groups' interest, to realize equal education right and to carry out the building of harmonious society.The thesis adopts different ways such as literature collection, contrastive analysis, survey to acquire the statistics of college students' family background and region distribution in Zhejiang Province, and then to reveal the current situation of equal chances for higher education in this province. As a whole, the chances for higher education in Zhejiang are increasing, but compared with the children living in the cities and high-class families, the chances for those who live in rural areas and low-class families to receive higher education are relatively fewer. The thesis analyses the factors causing unequal chances for higher education, and puts forward some solutions and measures such as improving the regulations and the system for education, allotting more money for education, reducing the gap between rural and urban areas, balancing the development of compulsory education, setting up aid system and making preferential public policies for disadvantaged groups.
