| Songyuan City is a new city with only 16 years history. Compared with other cities,it has a short development history, yet a fast speed, having been one of the leading cities of Jilin province. However, the sports industry develops relatively slowly in comparison with other cities. Therefore, learning the current status of the athletics development of Songyuan, finding the existing problems and constituting measures to solve the problems are significant problems demanding prompt solution.This paper adopts methods of documents, questionnaires, interviewing experts, symbolic statistics, logical analysis, etc, taking responsible leaders, coaches and athletes who are engaging in sports exercises in Songyuan as research objects, surveying the current development status of athletics in Songyuan and proposing corresponding strategies to sovle the existing problems.The research result shows that the sports industry in Songyuan received some achievements in the past, which has shaped Songyuan's brand item. However, it also exists plenty of problems, such as casual and irregular management, shortage of treasury and unsound ground equipments, unreasonable exercising system, no mutiple levels of training system, unstable posts of coaches and few training, unsound contest system and few sports contests and opportunities, poor consciousness to research of coaches, leaders'indifference to reseach and low societal attention to athletics.In order to sovle the existing problems in athletics of Songyuan City, several strategies are proposed as follows: constituting a new development blueprint, improving development system, enlarging predominant items, extending"new point to increase the number of gold metals", strengthening the selection and training of athletes'reserve force, increasing investment in sports technology, sticking to scientific exercises, training a group of excellent full-time coaches, enhancing governmental departments'investment to provide enough fund and goods supplies for athletics.
