One hundred years ago, Weining, Miao compatriots in Stone GateWay, Weining, Guizhou province, lived a slash-and-burn life almost in pristine condition. They, sheltering in the zone of the Yi leaders, had been suffering the discrimination and exploitation of local officials and Yi leaders for thousands of years. They were semi-slaves or semi-serfs, zoned as"Uneducated Miao"by the government at that time. When moving to Stone GateWay, Miao compatriots were illiterate in Chinese characters, Chinese language and even in number.The history of Stone GateWay is amazing in the past century. The place, almost"purgatory"from the perspective of material, was once the"Holy Land"of culture. The wild small village has sprung up, the villagers led the Miao nationality and other minority to actively eradicate illiteracy and develop education in over ten counties neighboring Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou. Now it has been the most educated zone in Miao residence, Southwest of China. Samuel REV?Samuel Pollard, a British missionary, played a key role in the transformation. His education in Stone GateWay 100 years ago made it such a success that it is worth summarizing the experience indeed.This study aims to sort out his characteristics and experience from the perspective of curriculum. After lots of site inspection, interviews, REV?Samuel Pollard's experience and characteristics of former education courses are gradually clear by analyzing and screening a large number of materials. There are four parts in the thesis. (1) The brief introduction of Samuel REV?Samuel Pollard, is mainly to introduce the sponsor and key executor of the typical education case. (2) Introduction of Stone GateWay is the summary of the social conditions of Stone GateWay a century ago to highlight the starting point and final achievements of this case with the purpose that readers observe the course from a historical perspective. (3) REV?Samuel Pollard's previous experience in education curriculum outlines, the part comprehensively presents the course content of REV?Samuel Pollard, and systematically summarizes the student-centred course value orientation, the course objective of the combination of eradicating literacy education and elite education, the "bottom-up" curriculum conception, the curriculum implementation of combining"agricultural science and education", the standard of curriculum evaluation---the harmoniously development of human and society and strive to embody the characteristics and values. (4) Part four is about the inspirations from REV?Samuel Pollard previous experience in education courses on the current curriculum reform. History can mirror reality, essences can be drawn from Samuel REV?Samuel Pollard's courses experience and be appropriately applied in the current reform of new curriculum to proceed the new curriculum healthily and orderly.
