"Science Inquiry"has become a hot topic in the New Curriculum Reform in the new century."Understanding Science Inquiry"is taken as an important object for the study of science inquiry in the science curriculum standard. The object shows the change that science teaching revolve from"Mastering science"to"Understanding science", meanwhile, it also reflects that teaching of science inquiry must take science inquiry understanding first for students to learn science inquiry. Researches show that students'ability of science inquiry can get developed by"learning by doing"or"operating by hand", but their understanding of science inquiry is not satisfied. Studies on the practice of science history teaching found out that students'awareness of science nature can be developed by integrating science history with teaching, and their understanding of science inquiry can get promoted as well. Therefore, this paper aims to promote students'understanding of science inquiry by integrating science history with teaching.The paper, on the base of literature study, first puts forward evaluation index system which includes 18 aspects for junior school students to understand science inquiry. Then by selecting four topics, which are"Newton's First Law of Motion","Oum Law","photosynthesis","Mass conservation"from junior science textbook for grade 8 published by Zhejiang educational publishing house, the paper sets 13 aspects which this paper needs to study for the understanding of science inquiry, and compiles a science inquiry questionnaire and a science knowledge questionnaire according to the 13 aspects and the four topics respectively. The paper takes grade 8 students as subjects to find out the change of science inquiry understanding and the influence of science knowledge by the study of integrating science history with teaching. First, the result of qualitative study1, It puts forward the evaluation index system for junior school students.2, It finds out the teaching obstacles that exist when integrating science history with teaching to promote students'understanding of science inquiry. The difficulties are as follows,(1), There is difficulty in collecting and processing materials of science history(2), There is difficulty in practice teaching by integrating science history,(3), There is difficulty in choosing suitable teaching methods Second, the result of quantitative study1, There is no obvious effect to students'science knowledge in integrating science history with teaching.2, There is obvious effect to students'science inquiry understanding in integrating science history with teaching.3, It is difficult for an ideal level for students to understand science inquiry in a short period of time in integrating science history with teaching.The author puts forward the following suggestions according to personal research findings and experiences,1, suggestions on curriculum(1) Pre-profession curriculum. HPS curriculum, which include science history, science philosophy, and curriculum combined science and Sociology, should be carried out in normal university for science major students a better understanding of science nature.(2) After-profession curriculum. Developing curriculum which fits for science teachers'a better understanding of science nature in junior schools.2, Suggestions on teaching materials and teaching aid resources(1) Teaching materials. More background, process of development and discussions should be introduced to teaching materials on some concepts, laws and theories, as well as correlation on the contents and science nature.(2) Teaching aid resources. Developing science history database concerning teaching contents by combining science teaching materials for teachers'convenience of science history teaching.3, Suggestions on teachingResearchers should pay more attention to study the teaching of integrating science history with teaching. They should also develop teaching cases and explore suitable teaching methods for teachers'reference.
