New Curriculum Reform in elementary education has been carried out and been putting into effect around the whole country since the autumn of 2001.New Curriculum gives clear and definite demands for the reform in the function, structure, content, enforcement, evaluation, supervision and etc. And as we know Chinese is a main subject in primary school and fortunately, great progress has been made in Chinese teaching, but there are still many problems needed to be solved in Chinese teaching materials for it is the basis for teachers to teach and students to learn. So accordingly reforming and constructing the Chinese teaching materials plays a great role in New Curriculum Reform.Reading Street is published by Scott Foresman Company, which belongs to Pearson Education; while Pearson Education is one of the biggest publish company in the world .so through the study of the Reading Street, we hope it can provide some useful information to our Chinese teacher and wish it can bring new blood to the reform of Chinese teaching materials.The structure of the thesis is as followings:Part1: Introduce the cause, background, scope, structure and methodology of this research.Part 2: Explain the standard of English curriculum of America. Mainly introduced frame work, features and suggestions of how to teach English.Part3: Research of the structure of Reading Street. Including its units, texts and so on.Part4: Research of the contents of Reading Street. Including its subjects,genre,number of texts, exercises and activities,etc.Part 5: The characteristic of the Reading Street and the revelation to us.
