Higher education had been experiencing a high speed of development since colleges and universities of our country became to increase the number of new entrants in large scale. Thus,the expansion for higher education was not only a hot issue of educational circles,but also the focus of the society. The successive college expansion,on the one hand,met the needs of those desiring for higher education and provided massive personnel holding advanced academic degrees,on the other,induced new conflict and issues. The quality of higher education fell off, graduate found it hard to get employed,the tuition fees were high,and colleges bore huge debts.All of these issues had become the bottleneck restricting the rapid and sound development of higher education. As a result,the expansion of higher education was taken as a target,In what way should we study on it,and what on earth had it brought to the development of the whole society? Based on the previous research,this paper tried to analyze positive and negative effects resulted from the successive extension of higher education,using methods of qualitative and quantitative analysis.This paper fell into five sections:The first section is the introduction, and mainly elaborated the background and meaning and basic concept of the research. Besides, it presented the adoptive method and the thoughts of the thesis.The second part is in analyzing the context and underlying of the domestic extension, looking back on the process of it, preparing for effect analysis—the center part of the rest.The part of third and fourth: using methods of qualitative and quantitative analysis, from perspective of economics, pedagogy and sociology, based on theories such as manpower capital theories, social layering theories, education equal opportunity theories , higher education personal investment rate of return etc, from aspects of politics, economy, culture and higher education, the writer analyzed positive effect of successive extension of higher education. Later, the paper put an eye on the relationship between successive extension and issues like quality falling of higher education, job-hunting difficulty of graduates, expensive tuition fees and debt crisis of colleges, etc. And what's more, negative effects brought by the issues were also discussed.The final part was on conclusion according to qualitative analysis done above. To the issues discussed, this part put forward corresponding suggestions on controlling of enrollment scale and speed of higher education later on.
