Vocational English Vocabulary Teaching Strategy Research

The existing problem in secondary vocational school is that the students spend much time learning English vocabulary,but make a little progress in language learning. Another common problem is lack of communicative competence and listening ability.I devised a questionaire guided by the theory of English vocabulary teaching,in order to find out the current conditions of the students ' English vocabulary environment.The survey involves one hundred students in jiangxia vocational technical school.It tries to find out the answers to the following questions:1.vocabulary learning tactics.2.favorite English vocabulary teaching method,3.The factors that influence the students' vocabulary acquisition.The investigation shows:1.the major problem in English vocabulary learning comes from the lack of English vocabulary learning tactics.2.the favorite English vocabulary teaching method is communicative.3.there are many reasons to influence the students' English vocabulary acquisition.This paper,according to the current conditions of the students' English vocabulary learning,aims to find out the best way,for example communicative vocabulary teaching method,to improve English vocabulary teaching.In traditional English vocabulary teaching,the teacher tries to translate every word into chinese,what the students do is to remember the new words' chinese meaning mechanically and how to use these words is ignored.As a result,the most important communicative capability is failed.For this reason,the author,based on the investigation in Jiangxia vocational technical school,applies the comparative method to the experiment.I apply the "communicative vocabulary teaching method" to the experimental group in class,and simultaneously use the traditional method for the comparative group which is initially identical to this experimental group.At the beginning of the term,I pretest these two groups on listening,speaking,reading,and writing abilities.And then at the end of this term,I posttest the two groups again on the same four items.The consequence shows that students in the experimental group make greater progress in four skills than students in the comparison group.Why do the students in experimental group develop better? There are two reasons for this:the first one is the teacher for the experimental group pays more attention to affective factors,such as motivation,interest and anxiety,etc;the second reason lies in the creation of the " communicative Vocabulary teaching method ".I create "communicative vocabulary teaching method" in the following ways:comprehensible input;playing-game method;audio-visual method and task-based language teaching.According to the outcome of the experiment,the author of the thesis makes a series of suggestions for the creation of a better English vocabulary teaching environment in order to promote students' comprehensive skills.
