| Writing is an extremely complex intellectual process. The process involves the recurrent application of wide range of thinking skills and language abilities. Writing can effectively promote knowledge's digestion of the target languages. It is helpful for learners to verify the sentence structure and words using of the aim language, and can promote the automation of the target language's using so as to effectively accelerate the acquisition of the aim language. At present the English writing situation in senior high school isn't optimistic. It is difficult to teach for teachers and difficult to learn to students. Writing is always a weak aspect of English teaching. Although our scholars and many English teachers racked their brains in it, the effect is still not obvious and the students' writing has never reached the satisfactory result. This situation is also closely related with the influence of product-oriented approach. The teachers, teaching materials and teaching methods all restrict the student's creativity and enjoyment of learning. It's concerned by teachers from different kinds of schools and experts how to improve English writing teaching and students'writing levels, which reflects the problems in our basic English education. And we're expected to solve them. In this thesis the writer adopts the method of literature research to collect, consult and analyze related literature data, which is the academic theories and referenced samples of the research. And then this thesis makes a preliminary investigation into the present situation of composition teaching at senior middle school through questionnaires and interviews conducted among a certain number of teachers and students from the middle schools in our city. Based on the results of the investigation, the thesis reveals some inadequacies of English writing teaching at middle school, including indifference to writing teaching and ineffective instruction. Then the thesis goes on to make an analysis of the common problems in the teaching of English writing at senior high school and points out the causes that lie behind them. Finally the thesis presents some corresponding solutions in the hope of improving the current practice of writing teaching at high school, concerning the strengthening grasp of the basic knowledge, the activation of students' motivation, making full use of the process genre approach, the comprehensive usage of speaking, listening, reading and writing in the preparation part and practice part of writing, and implementation of teachers' training and so on. |
