The aim of English learning is to communicate with others. And the essence of developing students'competence of communication is to cultivate their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.Writing can objectively reflect the comprehensive language ability of students, such as verbal ability and linguistic organizational skills.As a result, writing is an important part in senior English learning and teaching. However, observing the current status of students writing, we can find that we always fail to achieve the desired writing results and we always experience ineffective teaching.Process genre writing approach is a combination of the advantages of product approach, genre approach and process approach. And it is widely used by the teachers in the senior English writing class. However, in reality, there is too much ineffective teaching with process genre approach to English teaching in writing. Many teachers distort the process and ignore the situations resulting in ineffective activities and improper evaluation. The optimization of the approach can not be realized in English writing class.Based on my personal participation in two research programs on the development and practice of senior English writing course from process genre approach and on the effectiveness of English teaching in writing in senior high schools, the author of this thesis collected and sorted out relevant literature, and made questionnaires and interviewed with the experimental subjects before analyzing the cases and summing up the experiment. By applying all these methods in the thesis, the author makes systematic description of the main features and implementation steps of the process genre approach and other related approaches. The author also examines the ineffectiveness of applying the process genre approach in teaching English writing in a senior high school, analyzes the causes of these negative phenomena, and proposes some effective writing strategies in appropriately applying process genre approach in writing class to promote the efficiency of English writing.Under the guidance of the strategies proposed, the author made experiment in senior English writing class. Through one-term practice, the author has begun to realize the significance of making the questionnaires and comparing the performance of different writing methods. The results of this study illustrate that the improved teaching methodology in English writing inspires students'interest in English writing, helps build up students'confidence in English writing, and improves their comprehensive ability of English.Finally, the thesis provides some suggestions on the application of process genre approach to the teaching of English writing.
