Ordinary Senior High School English Curriculum Criterion(New Criterion)formulated by the Ministry of Education in 2003 makes clear requirements on writing.Compose practical writing of common styles,such as letters,notices,etc;write semantically coherent and well-structured essays.However,traditional teaching method emphasizes the grammatical correction of sentences,but neglects to cultivate the genre awareness.As a result,there are logic and structural mistakes in students' compositions.At the same time,limited by time,most students finish their writing task after class and hand in their compositions for correcting,but writer of this essay thinks that the simple evaluation couldn't neither inspire students to write or build confidence in writing,nor help prepare students for social demands.Hence,writer tried to apply process genre approach to practical teaching activity in the hope of cultivating student's text awareness.Taking the advantage of process approach,the writer has both teachers and students take part in the specific writing process,so as to reduce students' resistance toward writing and develop their writing ability.The writer carried out a writing investigation which is based on the four steps that are summarized by HanJjnlong in 2003.The study lasted for three months.The writer analyzed the questionnaire about students;writing ability and attitude.Then the writer summarized the effectiveness and problems of process-genre approach.There are five chapters in this essay.Chapter One mainly introduces the research background and current writing situation.Chapter Two describes writing-relevant theories and the theory basis of process-genre approach.Chapter Three describes the application of process-genre in class,including analyzing the questionnaire,organizing the discussion and copy and the assessing after writing.Chapter Four analyses the result of research and rethink the problems.Chapter Five is about conclusion which generalized the writing investigation and summarized the limitation,as well as offering suggestions for further study.
