To follow the coming of the lifelong learning age, more and more people have the hoping to enter school for studying in different ages. Recognition of prior learning (RPL)is an assessment process that assesses the individual's non-formal and informal learning todetermine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning outcomes,competency outcomes, or standards for entry to, and/or partial or total completion of, a qua lification. It is the basis of the credit system in vocational education, but also an important means of combining formal, informal and non-formal education. RPL give migrant workers, persons with disabilities, youth learners, and other social disadvantaged groups and provide them with more training opportunities, can effectively help them find jobs and promote theircareer development. At the same time it provides new training opportunities for experiencedskilled workers, is the driving force to promote lifelong learning.Australia was one of the countries with mature experience that previously carried out in RP L. Australia RPL originated developed in the stage of vocational education and use of the largest and most successful. So the author chooses RPL in Australia vocational education forthe research.RPL affirmed previous work experience and the important role of learning experience, thetheoretical foundation is experience learning theory. The operating basis of RPL is come from the competency-based training (CBT) concepts and principles in vocational education inAustralia. The assessment methods of RPL is flexible and diverse, the truth, reliable, flexibl e, and justice as its principles. RPL in Australia vocational schools rather characteristics, theassessment is depends on the Australia vocational education system, based on. the Australia n Qualifications Framework and Training Package, with the function of admission assessmentand credit award, the credentialing model and development model as its theoretical model. RPL take a positive impact on the individual learners, training institutions and the community.The experiences of RPL in Australia vocational educations are worth our study and learn fro m. In this paper, RPL of Australia vocational education is not only as an education assessm ent method, but also as an education policy. As an education assessment method, the assess ment criteria, processes and the principle of RPL is introduced; As an education policy, the paper then focuses on the implementation of profile characteristics, influence and controversy of RPL, and inspiration for our country's vocational education, etc. The mainly methods of this paper is access to information, to reference a large number of English information, foc using on the study report published by authority institutions of vocational education research,At the same time, this article will use large numbers of figures and examples to illustrate RPL polices and practice.
