This study choosed 596 students as samples in Jimei University. The Tennessee Self-concept Scale(for college students)revised by Li Yazhen,Chen Zhina's College Students'Career Development Inventory and the questionnaire of the effect of personal value on the career development were used as the instruments of the study. By regression analysis, this study systematically explored the effect of self-concept on the career development of college students, which enriched the studying contents of career development of college students, widen the study field and provided some references and enlightenment for career development education and tutorship.The result showed that the global condition of the college students'self-concept was good, but the career development level was not very high. The students with different demographic characteristics were different in self-concept and career maturity. Self-concept was highly positively related to the career maturity. The global self-concept influenced and predicted college students'career maturity. Different levels of self-concept in concrete dimensions had different influences on the college students'career development in concrete dimensions. Of all,"social self"effected college students on the career development greatestly,"mental self"the next, and"family self"the least. The occupation value of college students emphasized short term benefit and personal interests, which influenced on their long-term planning of life career.On the basis of the study result, some suggestions to conduct education of career to college students are drawn:(1)Build omnidirectional system of career education and strengthen the whole education to the college students;(2)Develop rich and varied campus activities and offer practice opportunities for the college students and advance their career development;(3)Insist on the policy of students'self-education adding with teachers'active guide, strengthen the cultivation of college students'active"mental self"and"social self-concept";(4)Strengthen the education of college students'occupation value and help them build up scientific value of career development.
