The high-speed development of the modern society, has been not merely promoting rapid economic development, but imposing increasing heavy pressures on young people's lives and career developments. Placed in fierce social competition, buffeted against the inner and outside pressures, the busy young souls experience more or less some negative reactions of bad symptoms in their bodies and minds. And the postgraduate students, a special intellectual group, bear the high pressures resulting from the social changes and the transition of economic system, and shoulder the great expectations of the society and their families as well. Especially today, with the expanding enrollment scale of the postgraduates year by year, pressures from their studies, employments and other fields make them suffered heavily on minds, even lead to various psychological problems gradually. Numerous researches on graduates discovered that the emergence of abnormal psychological problems relates greatly to their daily stressors and coping styles. Thus in the study"stress"is chosen as a key element to investigate postgraduate students.With the method of questionnaire investigation, 570 Master degree candidates in Huazhong University of Science and Technology were samplified in the study. By self-made"The Scale of Daily Stressors for the Master degree candidate"in combination with psychological assessment using the simplified coping styles questionnaire (SCSQ), center for epidemiologic studies depression scale (CES-D), trait anxiety inventory (TAI), Distress Symptom Scale (DSS) and symptom checklist 90(SCL-90), the stressors, coping styles and mental health of the postgraduates were investigated. All the data colleted were statistically analyzed by the software program of SPSS11.5 .The conclusions of this study included:â‘ "The Scale of Daily Stressors for the Master degree candidate"has fairly good reliability and validity and meets the demands of psychological survey.â‘¡The mental health status of the postgraduate students allows of no optimist, and needs to pay more attention to.â‘¢The major stressors with the students are employments, studies.â‘£The mental health relates very closely to stressors and coping styles. A general linear model was used to test the main effects and interaction of coping styles, stressors and mental health .The results revealed that the main effects of stressors and coping styles were significant; the interaction between stressors and coping styles was also significant. Coping styles was important moderators between stressors and metal health. In order to maintain their mental health the psychological health education and training should be strengthened, and meanwhile the stressors should be more efficiently under control, so that they can correctly recognize their own stressors, take effective coping styles, and in a healthier way promote the growing development in their bodies and minds.
