This is the era of innovation, which needs large quantities of elites. Innovative thoughts are necessary and the requirement of our society. It's our duty to develop innovative thinking skills of our students, which is very important to improve our innovation system.With the development of quality-oriented education, innovative abilities become more and more important. Chemistry in middle school is a subject which can motivate students'thinking abilities, and it should make full use of its advantages to develop students'innovative abilities. How can we achieve this goal? Some research work shows that complete education on innovative thinking can enrich students'thinking experience and improve their cognitive system, which can raise their level of thinking.To improve their over-all qualities and thinking abilities, this paper covers related questions in term of theory and practice. In theory, it's directed by innovation education, epistemology, psychology, teaching methodology and expatiates on the features and formation of innovative thoughts. In practice, it combines different features of chemistry in middle school and gives some discussion on general teaching principles and methods. It also focuses on the attempts to develop students'innovative thinking skills, which may provide advice and reference in practice and theory.
