Since a long time ago, we have realized the importance of teaching reading by analyzing the setting of the senior English curriculum, the selection the textbooks and its great proportion in senior English teaching. Nowadays, reading comprehension, which covers 40 points among 150 points, is in the highest flight in the NMET. The cloze test and the passage correction are also based on the reading comprehension.However, both teaching and learning reading are not in satisfying actualities. Generally speaking, most teachers lack of the theory foundation and their teaching methods are obviously out of date. As a result, teaching and learning reading are considered to be inefficient. Though most students devote a great deal of time and energy in reading, they can only have a little effect. Therefore, investigating into the actualities in teaching and learning reading will be the core to promote the senior English teaching reform in Jilin religion.The actualities in teaching reading will be investigated and analyzed by questionnaires and interview in this essay. It aims to study the proper principles as well as ways of teaching reading in senior schools and generalize the scientific strategies and techniques. It is hoped that the teachers can improve their abilities in teaching reform and classroom teaching. In addition, our goal is to arouse the students'interest in reading English and help them to form a good habit of reading in order that they can promote their reading strategies and abilities. This study may help to promote the teachers'and students'qualifies at the same time and exploit new ideas of teaching and researching so as to promote the levels of teaching reading.This essay aims to sum up the successful experience that we have achieved and find out the current problems by investigating and analyzing the actualities in teaching and learning reading. Meanwhile, we need to analyze the reasons of these phenomenon and seek how to improve both teaching and learning in reading English.I have been trying to give some suggestions, which contains ten aspects. They are to study"New Standard of Curriculum", grasp theories in teaching reading, optimize teaching modes, improve teaching strategies, treat the students as the center, improve students'reading techniques, cultivate their reading abilities, promote their reading strategies, training the students to read well after school and develop their psychology qualities in reading English. As an educating researcher of English, I put forward the quality standard in teaching reading as references.
