As a second language, English is widely used nowadays. But at the same time, a series of problems which troubled educators and learners frequently appeared. What makes the difference between a successful language learner and an unsuccessful one? How can one learn English well?Since the1960s and 1970s, the study of second language acquisition has been started. Many scholars and educators devoted themselves to the study and gained great insight into the actral language acqusition.They found that a learner's learning results could be influenced by many factors. Among these factors, learning strategies were among the dominant ones.But most scholars focused their surveys on students'learning strategies or the relationship between learners'learning strategies and their achievements. Seldom did the scholars concentrate on the reasons for the problems appearing in learning. Meanwhile, for a long time, the scholars in their studies concentrated on college students. Their finds were a misinterpretation of students. They didn't pay enough attention and tended to neglect junior students who are the beginners in English learning.Compared with college students, junior students are different and carry their own unique features. In order to find the characteristics of junior students in learning strategy choosing, data was collected from 100 students selected randomly in two teaching classes by using a questionnaire. Qualitative results came from interviews with 3 junior middle school students. The study intends to find the factors that influence junior students'strategy choosing and trying to find the way-out.Findings provide evidence that some problems which will influence students'strategy choosing including interal factors and exteral factors. The interal factors can be the development of students'cognitive and meta-cognitive as well as emotion. And the environmental factors and studying conditions are regarded as exteral factors.Based on the data collected, the study attempts to find the way-out of the problems and encourage the students to adjust their learning strategies in order to improve their English learning and make their learning more efficient and more fruitful.
