Problems And Its Countermeasures Of Student Affairs In Institutions Of Higher Education

With the Chinese Higher Education stepping into the Universal Education period, great change has taken place on campus. Many new problems have emerged to the effect that students' view changes subsequently. Hence, effective measures must be taken to settle the conflict between the traditional work system and new situation. And this is an important as well as urgent task for Institutions of Higher Education.This paper clarifies the theoretic meaning of student affairs and defines the mutual relations among education, management, service and the development of students. The pitfalls of existing work system become obviously under the new situation, including a series of unavoidable problems such as fragmented leadership, work methods of partial education, weight management and service light, lacking professional development. The internal reason of these problems is the constraint of mainstream idea. To be in line with the requirement of students' development, some measures are worked out: preaching at students in the process of guiding them to future development, directing them properly exercise their rights before they fulfill their obligations, setting up new ideas to satisfy their practical needs.At the same time of updating the idea, we have to construct student-oriented work mode with the Trinity of education, management and service. We will adjust the leading mechanism of student affairs, reorganize working structure, unify the school resource, improve service system and promote work efficiency. In order to handle student affairs comprehensively, the school sets up student affairs Department with three divisions, Development Dept., Affairs Dept., and Management Dept. The three divisions together with their twelve functional centers, thoroughly change the antagonistic position between the school and students. And they melt education and management into service to help students dig out their great potential. The improvement on work methods will be a part of whole solutions to these problems, comprising working process, methods and attitudes. To accelerate the professional development of handling student affairs we should take measure in terms of professional perspective by constructing professional knowledgeable and technical system, strengthening profession research and the implementation of professional development in-service personnel. This mode is based on the understanding, implementing and persisting of the idea of people in the field of education. Management, education, and service are only a process or means, while to cultivate students is the final target.
