This paper aims to summarize and induce the whole track of development of physical teaching for Chinese women for more than 100 years under the social background in modern China, which has lagging-behind education—especially the poor education for women. The physical teaching for Chinese women gradually elevated under rough situation. P.E, as luxury goods for ladies of rich and powerful families in old China, has become common things for civilians recently. We are moved and inspired by the struggling of Chinese women's liberation from indoors to the school and society in the last century.By methods of documentation, social gender analysis, history reviews, comparative analysis, hypothesis and logic analysis, the author of this paper studied the process of elitism, which means the process from"cultivate the commonalties"to"popularization"on the physical teaching for women since modern China. The findings of this paper show that China has illustrious advancement in this process. For example, during the course of striving for independence and democracy for our nation, the enthusiasm involving in state affairs of Chinese women is upswing, which promotes the P.E teaching for women in China, and the idea of feminism played an important role in this process. However, there are still some defects in the trend of reformation. For example, there are strong trends of utilitarianism in this process and we paid less attention to the natural function of P.E. And even today the P.E teaching for women, which still be influenced by long-time theory of instrument, can't be put into practice effectively in spite of aiming to"popularization".The purpose of this paper aims to give suggestions for current P.E teaching for Chinese women against the utilitarian approach and non- popularization and hope to be benefit for China's P.E teaching.
