In the beginning of 20th century, the promotion of new primary schoolscreated a great need for modern textbooks. Unfortunately, both traditional textbooks andwestern ones can't be fit for the new elementary education. So Chinese had to explore anew set of modern textbook for new primary schools.How to set up? How to choose from different cultures? People have made someefforts in conservation and westernization. Woefully, they were both failed.At that time, the civilization press edited the elementary scientific textbooks, whichlearned from the western branch of learning and possessed the sense of modern subject.Besides, it still reserved the traditional plum. Surprisingly, it made a bloom. It'was verypopular in new primary schools.The success lies in an open-minded attitude to culture. Tolerance andindigenization enables the elementary scientific textbooks to be volatile in the moderneducation. It is worth to learn.The paper falls into five parts.Firstly, it is an introduction. This part mainly elaborates the selected topic overallunderstanding and the macroscopic assurance, introduces the selected topic basis, thecorrelation research narrates and comments and studies the mentality, the method.Secondly, it indicates the birth of the elementary scientific textbooks. It contributesto promotion of new primary schools and the development of the modern press.Especially, "the civilization press" plays an important part.The third expounds the kind of the elementary scientific textbooks. There is abouttree type. One is Physics and health, another is morality, third is science, and fourth ishistory and grammar. These subjects offered a new and vigorous view for the moderneducation.Forth, it analyses the feature of modernization. It pays more attention to the science,indigenization and legality.Fifth is a conclusion. According to the function, we can make an object assessment.It is a bridge from traditional textbooks to modern ones. In the development of modern textbooks, it is a lead role and provides a mode for the latecomers.The innovation is to take the elementary scientific textbooks as the modernizationresearch object firstly. We can draw a lesson from it. Indigenization and integration is abest way for the development of textbooks in modern china.
