Spherical geometry is of very rich contents and methods whichinclude many modern mathematical ways of thinking, such as observation, experiment, analysis, synthesis, summarized analogy, generalization, specialization, and they can be effectively applied in the sphericalgeometry teaching. In addition, the common high school mathematicalcurriculum standard regards spherical geometry as special subject 3 ofthe third optional series, which is set up to further improve the qualityof math students whoa re interested in mathematics and geometry withthe purpose of cultivating students' imagination and geometric spaceabilities. Therefore in the teaching students should be made to actuallyfeel that spherical geometry knowledge can be used to solve or explainsome real problems in both life and production, to reach the relatedconclusions about spherical geometry by comparing it with Euclideangeometry, and to have anidea of some non-Euclidean geometry models aswell as differences between flat geomtry models and spherical geometry ones.Based on the features of spherical geometry, the writer thinks thatit is an effective way for students to learn spherical geometry wellby "practising mathematics" themselves. So a spherical geometryexperiment teaching research is conducted in Suining No.1 middle schoolof Sichuan province with the help of the SOLO taxonomy theory, thequestionnaire survey, the collective and individual interviews. First, the article describes non-Euclidean geometry as necessary backgroundknowledge of the research, and analyzes the SOLO taxonomy theory whichis the main method of doing research. Then, it designs creatively 78 openquestions, and classifies clearly students'thinking levels using theSOLO classification. After that, it gives an analysis of the testquestionnaires on spherical geometric studies, and does furtherresearch on opening the spherical geometry course, students cognitionbarrier, teaching materials present ways, teaching organizationimplements and evaluation metheds. Finally, it offers proposals for highschool mathmatics curriculum standard making and textbook writing.
