School adjustment means that students successfully complete their study to realize the education purpose of school with their positive adjustment on body and mind during the process of making the interaction with school. It is so important to passing the turning period from high school to college to make the adjustment to college life successfully not only for the freshmen's body and mental healthy at present and in adult, but for the social development in future ,therefore, the adaptation to college is a significant topic. Social support is considered as an important factor in so many ones with the result supported by many researches that it can promote the freshmen's adaptation to college.The subjects in the research are 573 college students randomly sampled from universities in Changchun city. With the tools of The Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire and Perceived Social Support, the overall situation and characteristic of the freshman's adaptation to college and social support and the relationship between them are investigated and analyzed. The results show that:1. The situation of the freshman's adaptation to college is in the good shape. There exist no distinct differences between female and male students on college adaptation .only-child students adapt better than others on communication.2. The freshman's social support is in the good situation. The female perceive much more support than the male from the family and the others. No obvious differences exist between the one-child students and the others.3. The higher the level of the freshman's social support is, the better the freshman's adaptation to college is; the lower, the worse.4. Social support can promote the freshman's adaptation to college, however, it will takes more time to take part in communication and emotion.5. Social support from different sources is positively related to the adaptation to college. Support from peers can help greatly the freshmen get good spiritual state and excellent performance in study, and support from the others can influence the students on adaptation in environment.
