The self-study capacity of junior middle school students refers to the comprehensive capability of automatically obtaining, implementing and systematizing knowledge based on their obtained knowledge and skills including the following four kinds of abilities: the ability of using reference books proficiently, ability of independent reading, ability of implementing knowledge flexibly and ability of controlling and speculating.Self-study is one of the requirements of the society to the educated; cultivating the ability of Chinese self-study is the requirement of the goal of Chinese teaching; it is the key aspect of improving the quality of Chinese teaching all-around; it is one of the vital ways of improving students'accomplishment of Chinese in general.This question for study has already been paid much attention by the theorists and many excellent teachers. Lots of experts did discussions at home and abroad; many special-grade teachers also did plenty of beneficial practical exploration, summarizing many meaningful theories; after the new course innovation, Dulangkou Middle School etc did lots of explorations and made great success. From the aspects of the students'intellectual level, knowledge reservation and their environment there is much probability of self-study.Based on these theories the author made a schedule of cultivating the students'ability of Chinese self-study, construed a teaching process which depends on the medium of students'activity, from the breakthrough of reading teaching, designed a self-study model of reading classes with a self direction. It means to direct preview, self study and introspect, discuss and exchange, expand exercises, evaluate effects. In the detail study of each class the order of the five steps can be changed and there is no absolute distinguished line among them. In this schedule the position of the teachers should be the head readers and dialogists of the texts materials; the responsibility of the teachers is mainly as follows: provide preliminary knowledge, create harmonious atmosphere, promote the co-development of students; teachers mainly play the role of training their positive attitude of self-study, more mature strategy of Chinese study, and form a good Chinese study habit.Through the practice in class several years after constant reassessment and adjustment it made a good effect. The classes taught by the author get the first place in every examination in the whole districts. The author therefore is honored as the'the Chinese course leader of the second session in Weihai''the new star of national Chinese teaching innovation of Yutong Cup'.
