With a rapid development presently in China's higher education, there appeareda lot of merged colleges and universities on a consideration of improving andexpanding teaching on a larger scale, thus to achieve combinations of differentsubjects and to enhance the comprehensive strength. On the other hand, however, fora majority of merged colleges and universities, new problems rise in their teachingadministration caused by a multi-campus system. It not only becomes more difficultto carry out the administration but also more dependent on modern informationtechnology. Meanwhile, a transformation from the academic-year system to the creditsystem asks for a totally new information management system, or at least an upgradedone.Guangzhou City Polytechnic, or the GCP, a higher vocational collegenewly-merged in 2005 combining four adult colleges, is discussed in this thesis. Likemany other colleges, the GCP also faces the problems such as scattered campuses, varied ways and standards in teaching administration on each different campus. Thishas made the tasks heavier and led to a lower efficiency and a higher ratio of makingmistakes. In order to speed up information transmission, thus to improve efficiency, the GCP has decided on establishing an informationized teaching administrationsystem which serves as the foundation of teaching reform and the implementation ofthe credit system. The goal of the GCP's establishing an imformationized teaching administrationsystem is to introduce informationization into teaching administration. Based on thisvery goal, this thesis constructs an Internet-oriented multi-campus teachingadministration information system by analyzing the current situation and the practicalneed of the GCP.The thesis divides into two major parts: the research part and the applicationpart. In the research part, the author briefs on the main functions and features of thisadministration information system and compares the differences between theacademic-year system, the academic-year credit system and the credit system.Furthermore, the author analyses the necessity and feasibility of implementing this information system and orientates the academic-year credit system as suitable for theGCP. At the same time, the author makes a detailed planning and design of thissystem in terms of construction goal, design principles, system structure, applicationframe, network TOP structure and online security technology. In the application part, the thesis constructs this information system abiding bythe following principles:â… . The system features a three-layer structure combining B/S (Browser/Server)and C/S (Client/Server). Owing to a uniform interface (in the way of browser), B/S isconvenient for clients like teachers and students without installing a client terminal, while C/S is intended for massive data processing since it is relatively more closedand securer and has a more improved software developing function.â…¡. The system operates under Windows 2000 serial, with ORACLE as itsbackground database system and Dephi and ASP.NET as its foreground developingtool.â…¢. Focus on the construction of B/S. A security layer is added between theserver layer and the application layer. This security layers ensures security of teledataaccessing through the cooperation of a secure agent server, a secure agent clientterminal and a CA server.Meeting the need of teaching administration at the GCP, this information systemis divided into the following modules: Charging Management, Student Management,Teaching Plans Management, Course Arrangement, Course Choosing, ExamManagement, Student Grade Management, Student Practice Management, Teachers'Evaluation, Graduation Management and Textbook Management. It indicates that, after being put into practical use, this information system hasconsiderably cut down on the working burden and reinforced campus administration.Consequently, the efficiency has been improved and a better service has been offeredto both teachers and students. The major contribution of this thesis lies in the combination of computerinformation technology, teaching administration and the practical situation of mergedcolleges and universities. It depicts a systematic planning and implementation for theapplication of Teaching Administration Information System at colleges anduniversities. It suggests a cut-in for the cooperation between colleges and universitiesand software developing companies. Also, it is the author's hope that this thesis would serve as an enlightenment in informationization construction for colleges anduniversities other than the GCP.
