From Micro Rational Action To Macrostructure

The realistic demand of social transformation and the conformity demand of academicmodel have expedited the production of the rational choice theory system of Coleman. Thetheory not only provides the reasonable explanations for social phenomenon, but also takes itas the theory goal that realizes the joint of the micro study and the macro study of sociology.At present the scholars researching on Coleman's theory from this angle is few, moreover thephenomenon, which abuses its theory with not inspecting widely, exists. This paper is on thefoundation of clarifying and reflecting on Coleman's rational choice theory, starts from theperspective of the distinction and the integration between the micro and the macro, analyseswhether the rational choice theory completes its theory pursuit, which realizes the link of themicro and the macro, analyses the limitations of rational choice theory of Coleman and triesto improve it. There are two clues through the transcript, which are the limitations of therational choice theory and the linking of the micro, and the macro, during inspecting thelimitations, consciously concerns on the basic problems of the social theory.The paper is divided into four parts. In the third part, analyses the limitations of rational choicetheory of Coleman from three aspects of micro foundation, micromacrolinking process and macro results, and addresses the shortcomings in methodology and the limitations ofexplanatory power to Chinese society? in the fourth Part, explores the origin which causes thetheory into predicament, thinks about the real connotation of the link of the micro and themacro, explores the way out of the dilemma for Coleman's theory.
