A Study On The Coleman Report Of 1966

Equality of educational opportunity is one of the goals of humankind, and it is becoming a direction of modernization of education. At present, there are still exist problems of inequality of educational opportunities in China. Pursuit of equality of educational opportunity is one of the aims of educations’ study in China. Coleman Report also known as Equality of Educational Opportunity is a measure of pursuit of equality of education. The education knows no boundaries. Learning from American in educational equality is good for us. The report has been cited more than 2700 academic papers from home and abroad, it’s academic value worthy to continue to research.After two years complex research process, Coleman Report made public facing with both doubts and cheers. The research conclusions of Coleman Report provide a strong support for blacks and other minority groups to pursue equal opportunities in education. Under the federal government attention, Coleman Report directly contributed to the progressive measure to cancel school segregation, and prompted the federal government to increase the educational subsidy of the children from poor family, for promoting equal opportunity in education,which to some extent affected the overall direction of American education policy. At the same time, there was a conflict between the report’s conclusions and the existing educations policies, thus the academic boom caused by report concludes enriched the understanding of connotation on equality of educational opportunity. The study aims to analyses the report’s produced reason, research and publishing process and its influence to the equality of opportunity of United States basic education. To explore the role of social science research on equal opportunities in education, and to summarize the advantages and disadvantages that Coleman Report have on American Education Equal Opportunity, providing useful inspiration for advancing our basic equalization.
