It is a kind of interactive relationship between schooling and its cultural- ecological environment. Only if we put schooling into more extensive social-cultural background, can we obtain relative objective understanding on the basis of anthropological theory and methodology to study the interaction and function between schooling and politics, economy, culture etc in a community. Meanwhile, schooling of ethnic minorities is inevitably influenced by that of principal ethnic group, but the principal ethnic group should recognize particularities of schooling of ethnic minorities, support them to develop their schooling according to their own willing and realize the compatibility between local knowledge system and modern knowledge system in different educational-cultural space.Following the theoretic paradigm of the interpretative anthropology and cultural ecology and taking Xiaomaopoying village for example, this research points out rural schooling should achieve adaptability with the cultural- ecological environment of the rural area when imparting the scientific- cultural knowledge of mainstream in modern society. We should attach more importance on the true qualities of the rural schooling in order to let the students adapt the country life through acculturation and accelerate endogenous development of the countryside society.This thesis consists of five parts. Part 1 is an introduction that is the theoretical basis of the paper. Part 2 is background explanation which briefly describes the general situation of the southwest Hubei, the history and present situation of Xiaomaopoying village and its schooling. Employing the method of fieldwork emics, part 3 states different people's attitude and view towards village development, schooling and traditional culture of the Miao people. Part 4 analyses interactions between Xiaomaopoying schooling and cultural- ecological environment of the village. In different educational-cultural space , the local knowledge system ought to be integrated with the modern knowledge system. The last part points out the village should transform its development pattern, and the schooling should not only asked to help the Miao students realize the up-social flowing, but also required to transmit traditional culture to keep the true qualities of the country.
