With the deepen development of globalization, the culture exchange between the countries of the world is the most frequent. In order to positively carries on, the equal interaction in the cultural exchange with the various countries, except modestly study other national culture by using English, we must disseminate our own outstanding culture by using English, and make the world understand China. Therefore, it's necessary to conduct the cultural research on the design of today's junior middle school English textbook. On the basis of the theory of curriculum cultural attribution and multicultural education, the research has made the cultural localization to the junior middle school English textbook design. We have done the real analysis on the cultural content in today's junior middle school English textbook, by comparison methodology and text analytic method in language research, and discovered the cultural vacancy question that is still remaining in the textbook, and found out the reasons, simultaneously proposed some culture idea about the textbook design, to help writer carry on some arrangement and establishment about culture in English textbook design.On the basis of the above clue, this dissertation consists 5 main parts:Part one: Preface. This part has generally introduced the study origin, study bibliography, study significance, study clue and methods.Part two: The cultural localization of the junior English textbook design. Firstly,we have proposed the theory basis of the study—curriculum cultural attribution andmulticultural education, and then, analysed the cultural function of English textbook, atlast, we locate the culture of the design of junior English textbook—the culture oftextbook should reflect much nations in the world, especially our national culture, and avoid representing only English national culture.Part three: The culture superficial characteristics of junior English textbook. In this part, we have done the real analysis on the cultural content of junior English textbook Go for it, which has been pressed by the People Education Press in 2003, by comparison methodology and text analytic method in language research, and revealed the problem that culture superficial characteristics is not coincident with the culture function.Part four: The reasons of culture superficial characteristics in junior English textbook. In this part, we have analysed the reasons of the culture superficial characteristics from the external and the internal, and there is about 4 reasons: the weakness of the national culture in the globalization tide; the unjust recognition of English teaching by the transference of society culture; the clock wave phenomenon of English textbook; the subjective reasons of the textbook writers.Part five: The culture conceived idea of the junior English textbook design. On the basis of deeply thought and analysis about the culture problems of junior English textbook design, we have proposed some culture conceived ideas and suggestions about the textbook design to the writers: establishing the textbook writer's original sense of English curriculum; adding some contents about Chinese culture properly, emphasizing the multicultural design in English textbook.In the concluding part, we plan to do some deeper research about English textbook's culture design in future: analyzing the textbook of all the school grades in our country; formulating relative culture standard of English textbook design; widening the culture research of textbook design to other subjects.
