Because of rapid development of media with the progress of science and technology and a series evolution of social structure and environment since90’s of last century, popular culture gradually became popular, especially in young groups. The popularity and development of popular culture has important effect on young students’ideas and behavior that both positive and negative. Also, the popularity of popular culture in young groups has format marked impact on school education which mainly contains mainstream culture, and caused both education experts and teacher’s attention and discussion. Therefore, educators must face to the popular culture and take effective measures to solve the impact on young student.By focusing on popular culture in the high school English textbook, and analyzing various types of popular culture of textbooks combined with young students’real life, this paper tries to take English course as an example to explore positive and negative impact of the popular culture that textbooks presented on young students and also give the corresponding teaching suggestions.Chapter one gives a comprehensive overview about study of popular culture in the high school English textbooks and explain the origin, objects and methods of the research.Chapter two introduce the rise and development of popular culture, focusing on five important theoretical trends of popular culture:the Frankfurt School critical theory of popular culture, Birmingham School popular culture theory, cultural hegemony theory and feminist popular culture theory.Chapter three make a classification and comb to the popular culture of PEP high school English textbook first. Then suggest in-depth interpretation of popular culture concept that various popular culture in the English textbook convey to students relying on the popular culture theories. Chapter four according to the impact of English textbooks’popular culture on young students, Problem-based learning, cultural enlightenment spirit as well as the life experience and needs of students to explore more refined strategies of teaching of popular culture in the English textbooks.
