In the age of Mass higher education, the qualify of higher education relies on the faculty's professional accomplishment.Therefore, we shoulde pay more attention to faculty's professional development.The issue of part-time faculty's development within community college setting has received attention since the late 1980s. To increase the opportunities for the continues professional development of the part-time faculty,and thereby ensure educational quality and promote vigorous teaching and other academic actibites, community college allocates money and time to assist the part-time members in discharging their professional responsibilities.There are four parts in this article.The first part is an introduction which introduces the purpose and the meaning ,the questions and the contents ,the methods and the writing structres of this article , and summarizes the related literatures in china and besides. Part two concentrates on the history and background of professioan development for part-time faculty in Americna community college.Part three is about the theories and current status of this main issue in American community colleges; the last part gives conclusions of what we can draw from the study ,and provides some suggestions as to what we can learn from the case as well.
