Study On The Employment Of Part-time Faculty In American Community Colleges

The community college is the most important part in the structure of American higher education.Also,it is the great pioneering work in the field of world higher education.In the early days,with the institutions' special model of development,large number of part-time faculties were employmented on the community college,even the number of part-time faculty has steadily increased all the time,and their role in American higher education may well expand further in coming years.Part-time faculty can be a major asset for the community college.Although the institutions have not recognized this point.For the part-time faculty of community college,attention is essential.This article first attempts to analysis the part-time faculty of the American community college from aspects of scale and characteristic which is contain the categories,age and gender structure,degree and academic title structure,race and workload.Next part from the reason why community college choose to employment part-time faculty,it's qualification and procedures,and the compensation of part-time faculty,this three points to analysis the current employment situation of community college.Then,this paper gives a summary from four aspects for the feature of part-time faculty employment.Such as the flourishing number of part-time faculty employment,the flexible employment qualification,normative employment procedure and low-cost employment compensation.In the last part,with the situation of Chinese vocational colleges and the analysis of the part-time faculty employment in the American community college,this article gives four suggestions to make Chinese vocational colleges become more perfect on the part-time faculty employment.And our country can learn the successful experience from the American community college.Such as,how to build the flexible employment qualification and optimize employment procedure,how to make the compensation system more perfect.All of this,it's very useful to increase Chinese vocational college's overall profile of part-time faculty and improve the educational quality of Chinese vocational college.In this paper,the major study methods of literature review and comparison areused.Through the study of current situation about the part-time faculty in American community colleges can provide some useful thinking patterns for the part-time management of Chinese vocational college.
