History advanced in the constant reform. Every political revolution, technology breakthrough, and economized reform must demand teachmg reform go with them. Geography teaching not only goes with the reform of society but faces the update of geography. So they need teaching reform. How to reform and what to reform is a task that history gives away to our geography teachers. Nowadays in the middle school geography teaching is based on the theory that teachers are the centre and the irrigated teaching, where students, as objects, are positive to attain the knowledge from teachers. It fetters the students' personalities, potential and the development, which decides we hunt for a new teaching form that can improve the students' complex quality. In the thesis open-oriented teaching is studied that a type of teaching based on New Course Concept results from autonomous learning theory, co-operative learning theory, inquiry learning theory, constructivism theory and research learning theory combining with the facts of middle school geography teaching in our country. The thesis is based on the theory related to pedagogy and psychology, aims at training the students' subject quality and complex quality, sets forth the problem in the teaching of middle school geography and the advantages and disadvantages of the traditional geography teaching, analyses the connotation of open-oriented teaching of middle school geography and expounds theory base and basically characters of open-oriented teaching. The thesis is researched on the enforcement of open-oriented teaching focused from teaching content, teaching procedure, teaching methods and so on, and the effect of training the student' quality. At the same time it puts forward several questions about which teachers implement the open-oriented teaching not only improves the students' ability but non-cognition quality such as their communicational ability, studying interest and confidence. Meanwhile it takes some migration to other subjects. It helps to form the good relationship between teachers and students which will improve the students' ability and make the students "willing to study," "able to study," "good at studying" .
