Life-oriented teaching of geography focuses on the geographic knowledge both in students’ life and in their respective,with the aim to put what they learn into practice.Based on students’ own experience,the teaching puts emphasis on addressing the real problems in life and how to solve them,thus making geography learning shift from life to geography and then from geography to life.It stems from life but surpasses life.As a result,students will be able to live their life well and even better.This paper probes into life-oriented teaching of geography in new era,by means of such methods as literature research,interview,classroom observation and action research,does a survey into the status quo of the life-oriented teaching.It is found that such problems exist as insufficient life content,teachers’ misunderstanding of the curriculum idea of “learning geography for life”,teachers’ neglect of practicing life teaching and students’ insufficient natural experience.Based on these problems and the results that we have achieved,the paper puts forward the implementing strategies of geography life teaching in three ways,namely teachers,students and textbooks.First of all,the teaching materials related to life are supplemented,which are designed to meet students’ cognitive characteristics.Second,teachers should profoundly comprehend and put into practice the curriculum idea of “learning geography for life”,which is the primary task in conducting the life oriented teaching.Teachers should build a knowledge structure suitable for the geography life-oriented teaching in the new era,prepare lessons carefully,explore and integrate life materials fully,design inquiry learning activities,and strengthen the teaching of basic knowledge so as to practice the curriculum idea “learn geography for life",and implement life oriented teaching.Third,students’ experience of nature are enriched by combining geography classes with "forest classes" and conducting study travel activities.This paper aims to improve the author’s teaching and research abilities,in the meantime,to provide geography teachers with some references on geography life teaching,theoretically and practically,and emhance the life teaching quality in Baohe district and even Hefei city and promote a new round of middle school geography teaching reforming in local district and city.
