From the beginning of 20th century, work stress has become an important study object in fields of psychology, physic, management and sociology gradually. On one hand, work stress plays a predominate role in ensuring normal operation of organization and society as well as improving job performance. On the other hand, it could make negative effects on individual soma, psychology and behavior, together with the efficiency of organization. The key factor to solve the above mentioned problem depends on whether stress is within the scopes of individual and organizational capacities.21st century is a new epoch with high-speed development and full of competition in economy, politics and military affairs. Who have the strongest scientific research (abbreviated as SR hereafter) ability will take the advantage of these competitions. With the development of our socialist market economy, a general tendency can be observed that the role of SR expanded in China. A large number of SR index have been adopted in assessing allowances and technical posts in high school. Therefore, the significance of SR has been enhanced. So it is imperative that the work stress management has to be carried out.This study is to investigate work stress situations among teachers in universities (named TU). In order to make a quantitative analysis, questionnaires diagnoses method has been used, and case interview also adopted at the same time for qualitative analysis. The content about this dissertation can be formulated as follow:(1) Work stress research. Work stress of TU can be ranked as follow: condition and require of SR, effect on individual, organizational structure, role press. And the sequence of work stress is organizational structure, role press, effect on individual and condition and require of SR.(2) Correlation among work stress, focus of control and work performance is put forward.(3) Analysis results are given. It shows that work stress has a negative correlation with work performance. So, it is important to lighten the work stress of TU in our country. The adjustment of locus of control to the correlation between work stress and work performance is analyzed too.
