Analyses Of Current Situation Of CSW Teaching In Middle School And Cultivating Of Students' Interest In Its Learning

As the quintessence of Chinese culture, Classical Style of Writing (CSW) carries our national spirit, fostering our taste for beauty and our ability of appreciating it. Therefore it has an important part to play in school education. A Standard Chinese Course for High School Students has specific goals and requirements for the teaching of CSW, much more CSW are seen in the new textbook, which all add to the difficulty of its teaching. Meanwhile, "high cost, low efficiency, little, slow, bad and waste" has long been the problem in CSW teaching, which is reflected in students' poor reading performance. The investigation by the author of this thesis reveals that the roadblock is lack of interest on the part of the students.The author suggests that more emphasis should be laid on the fostering of students' interest and to do the following to reach this aim. Make it clear to the students that CSW is of great worth, that learning it is crucial if one plans to improve Chinese performance and why we are learning it. Display the beauty of CSW in all possible aspects to give students emotional motivation. Adopt flexible teaching methods, give guidance and stretch students' learning beyond class to create bigger room for CSW learning.The Chinese teachers, who are to design and carry out CSW teaching, have more to be asked of. They are supposed to have passion (for both the students and teaching); they are to be well-educated and be equipped with all possible knowledge needed; they should possess charisma to be convincing.All of the strategies mentioned above proves to be effective.Anyway, it is no simple matter to restore students' interest in CSW teaching, teachers still have a lot to do to get CSW teaching out of its embarrassing situation.
