The Research On Parents' Educational Choice Of Kindergartens In Shanghai

The educational choice means that the parents choose the school according the children's gender, interesting, and demands to insure their education in the basic education scale. The research is an investigation and study about the status that the parents in Shanghai how to choose the school for their children and their choice ideas.Firstly, the dissertation analyzed from the visual angle of the preschool education that the ideas of the parents choosing the kindergarten for their children. But as we all know, the educational choice of the parents is impacted not only by the concepts but also by many external factors. Therefore, the dissertation attempted to analyze the reason of the final educational choice from the background factors about the parents and the children. Finally, the researcher would offer some inductions and constructive advices.The study chose randomly some public or private kindergartens (17 in all) to hand out the questionnaires (50 in every kindergarten) in Shanghai. And there are demonstration kindergartens, the first level kindergartens and the second level kindergartens. The samples drown hierarchically was to analyzing the different ideas from the parents' backgrounds.The research performs the process of study in the way of combining the questionnaires, investigations and interviews. The questionnaires were designed according to the interview results about the parents' educational choice at the early days of the research. The items of questionnaires were included in the traffic convenience, tuition, the information source, the curriculum contents, the educational concepts, the educational environment and facilities, the properties of the kindergarten, the teachers' abilities, the brand of kindergarten, and single requirements of the parents.The results of questionnaires and investigations show that many parents made mistakes in the educational choice, such as the lower opportunities of the father taking part in the educational choice for his children, the information source showing the outstanding different among the parents, more attention given to the facets about the educational environment and facilities, the teachers' abilities, the curriculum contents, and the educational concepts. The research results also declare that the educational choice is influenced by the parents' educational status, income, occupation, and or so. The parents who come from different backgrounds and the parents who come from different pubic kindergartens all appears different educational choice.Simultaneously, the results also present that the significant difference exists between the educational choices of the families which have different social scales. However, as a public project, the government has duty to harmonize the development of the whole early preschool education and establish the right educational polices. Only by this way, can the society correct the unfair distribution of public educational resources. Consequently, the resolve guidelines and the improvement measures summarized in the research, not only for the parents and the administrators of kindergarten, but also for the relative departments, particularly about the educational certifications.
