As a result of the influence of social reformation and the transformation of social structure, the function of the family and the school has also changed in evolution along with it in modern times, even appeared the dissimilation phenomenon of functional substitution. This research is based on the educational function of the family and the school, from the angle of individual socialization, has attempted to construct the academic explanatory framework of the complementary educational function between the modern school and family, thus consulted about the complementary theory of educational function between the family and the school, trying to construct an favorable educational field with the complementary educational function between the family and the school. This article has mainly discussed the complementary educational function between the family and the school from three aspects.First, from the historical aspect, the thesis is respectively reviewed the educational function of the family and the school in the different historical stage. Through comparing to the educational function of the family and the school, it has exhibited the vein of development of the complementary educational function between the family and the school and their social practical effectiveness. From the primitive society, the ancient society to the modern society, the educational function of the family and the school, has experienced the developing course that the carrier of educational function has changed from the family to the school.Next, from the principle angle, the research has expatiated the educational value and its function of the family and the school. From managing involved theory of pedagogy,sociology and psychology, the author analyzed the mechanism of the complementary educational function between the family and the school from the existing research angle of individual socialization. The essence of individual socialization is the process that the factors of the individual biological,the individual personality and the social environment interacted with each other. The family and the school are the main social environmental factors that have affected the individual socialization. From the angle of social structure, the family which is the primary social group and the school which is the secondary social organization, according to their own superiority of structural characteristics, is exerting the particular function of socialization in the entire social educational system, thus formed the functional complement; From the angle of cultural transmission, the family and the school as the carrier transferred the family culture and the school culture respectively, because of their difference in the cultural transmission of the structure,the content as well as the method, but has formed the functional complement; From the angle of the individual development, because the parent,the teacher and the compeer group as "the important person" which affects the individual personality to form in the family and the school have the different social roles, thus formed the functional complement .Once more, from the practical aspect, the research probed into the way that is able to carry out the functional complement with the family and the school, that is constructing the favorable"educational field", which has the complementary educational function between the family and the school. On the one hand, we must improve the quality of the parents, build the favorable environment of the family culture, and fully exert the function of the socialization in the family; On the other hand, we must promote the socialization of the teachers, optimize the cultural environment of the school and perfect the function of socialization in the school. In addition, we also must promote the home-school cooperation, extend the "overlapping spheres of influence"of the family and the school.
