Value orientation of higher education is a kind of value tendency that the subjectivity of higher education displays when it makes a decision towards the value of higher education and makes an educational choice on the value judgment according to its own demand. Value orientation of higher education has three basic characteristics as below: ideality, difference between different subjectivity and social history. According to different subjectivity, value orientation of higher education can be divided into three dimensions. They are the value orientation of higher education from society, university and individual aspect. These three dimensions of higher education's value orientation are the society, university and individual's expectation and pursuit towards the value of higher education as a subjectivity. Actually speaking, these three dimensions of higher education's value orientation cannot develop synchronized. The fact is that they aren't treated equally and appear some conflicts. This kind of conflicts become shrilly when higher education tends towards the centre of modern society. This kind of conflicts mainly behave from two aspects: on the one hand, the society dimension arrogates the university dimension; on the other hand, the society dimension overrides the individual dimension. The temptation of utilitarianism, the faultiness of educational policies and systems, the absence of university's subjectivity and the absence of young students' personality are the main facts that lead to this kind of conflicts. The important issues that higher education faces are harmonizing the value orientation of higher education and fulfilling the coalescent of these three dimensions. In this thesis, the author considers the fundamental goal of harmonizing is, in the practice of higher education, not only paying attention to the demand of society subjectivity, but also paying attention to the demand of university and individual, so country and society can grow harmoniously with the development of university and individual. The harmonization principles that we should obey are these: principle of lowest cost, principle of intersubjectivity and principle of surpassing. Consummating government's policies and setting up relevant regulations, cultivating university's spirit, fostering young students' personality spirit are the frondose approaches to harmonize the conflicts of higher education's value orientation.
