| The Thesis is composed of four chapters.The first chapter discusses high school English teaching conditions in which the research is born. Then it tells about the necessity of the research based on Shanghai Primary and Middle School Curriculum and the actual problems existing in High school English teaching. After that it gives the theoretical basis —Schemata and Constructivism. In the last part of the chapter an overall description of the research project is given, including the target students, research methodology and the aim, that is, to stimulate students to read English by introducing them to some interesting English literature works; to improve students' reading comprehension; to construct high school English literature reading curriculum.The second chapter mainly describes the research done in the field, that is, how literature reading affects language teaching and foreign language teaching.The Third chapter gives a detailed description of how the research is carried out. It consists of four parts. The first part deals with English literature teaching based on Imagery; the second part describes how English literature is learned in class through cloze; the third part tells about how teachers can guide students to make a story map in order to grasp the thread; the last part is about the question-guided reading practice of English literature.The Fourth chapter summarizes the result of the research and the problems that remain further research later. The research is a success. Interesting English literature works do stimulate students to do more reading after class; students reading comprehension is improved; school English Literature Reading curriculum is formed. But more research is needed to better this English Literature Reading course, and the evaluation of the course remains a problem. |
