Environmental education as an important part of quality-oriented education and it has become one of our country's educational goals at present .how to carry out environmental education effectively is also an important subject of our nation's education development in the 21st century. Inquiry learning is not only a characteristic but also an attracting point in the current curriculum reform in our country. Can environmental education be combined with inquiry learning? How can they be combined effectively? The paper is aimed at discussing the above two issues.This paper reviews the theories of environmental education, the importance of the environmental education based on inquiry learning, discussed the main problems and reasons for superiority in environmental education. In theory, combined the cognitive of features year student, started a theme of environmental protection of scientific.Research projects include:1 The detection of water pollution of the Yellow River in Lanzhou2 The simulation design of green school3 The Investigation of "Health and Air Pollution in LanZhou City"4 The study of battery scrap dissolved on seed germination rate5 The design of harms of acid rain and the simulation trial of acid rain6 Investigation of dust in Lanzhou CityParticipants were 132 students of No.3 high school in LanZhou , they are divided into two classes, that is, experimental class and the control class. The questionnaire was being used to have pre-test and post-test. After the study, I have the results just as below: The Z-test within the experiment class has showed that the students' environmental consciousness has an notable increasing; The Z-test between the two classes has showed that the environmental consciousness of the students in control group has no apparent increasing. Due to the teaching materials, there showed no obvious difference between two classes.The study indicates that the activity has a high acceptability and validity. The following goals have been achieved through the activity. First, stimulate students' desire to study and probe.Second, make students grasp basic environmental science knowledge.Third, help students understand their own relation with environment.Fourth, develop students' sense of social responsibility and improve their environmental awareness.Fifth, develop students' ability of finding and putting forward questions and improve their capability of solving practical environmental problems.Sixth, develop students' creativity and practical ability.Both the theory-analyzing and the real example study indicate that it is acceptable and effective to implement environmental education in inquiry learning.
