Research University is the patterns universities whose functional, purpose, features prominent in the academic competition, on the prominent academic competitiveness poses a fundamental requirement of their existence and development. At present, academic competition reflected the capacity for innovation knowledge characteristics. From organizational structure, only the main building of innovative knowledge of, dynamism and purpose of research colleges can enhance the competitiveness of the University's academic, and achieve goals of research-oriented university. Therefore, to explore why and what type of research is and how to build the research institute is very necessary.This followed the basic law of higher education from the relationship with university of academic competition and innovation knowledge, the use of related theories of tertiary education, management, sociology, and the investigation of research methods on literature law, comparative law and the law, theory of practice, studies the nature of research college under the frame of the university, analyses building research college elements conditions, and make a number of feasible recommendations.Through the exploration of the current theoretical debates and practices assessment and proposed research college building is used as a body of the trails, to achieve research university's dual mission which combined value of the construction and development of innovative; Through universities and colleges, academic competition and innovation knowledge relations with that the essence of the research college for innovation knowledge, The main innovation of knowledge, dynamism and purpose is to distinguish between research college and the general fundamental radical symbol . Then initially discusses research college's criteria in particular disciplines, divides it into two types of basic and mature mainly based on the assessment of subjects. At the same time, addresses the research capabilities and advantages of new knowledge depends on the four conditions interaction of the formation and healthy academic environment, active academic developments and continuing innovations and effective input-output effect, and made six infrastructure initiatives from the cultural atmosphere, management structure and system setup, teacher teams, innovative talents, knowledge services and so on...
