The aim of the Chinese courses should put its basis on what passages to choose and how to compile the selected courses. A system on how to choose the proper passages is supposed to be built to make the course roles come true. These course roles are to aim at developing students' Chinese language skills. According to the statements of "basic concept of courses" and "comprehensive goals" by the Standard of Chinese Language Courses, Chinese language skills generally can be classified into three aspects: humanity skills, Chinese language skills and practical skills. The roles of courses should be oriented in these three aspects. This dissertation states that the passage-selecting system could be built in the aspect of the standard of course roles. This dissertation attempts to take a research on the passage-selecting system cited in the Chinese Books(Grade 7 to Grade 9), Key Textbooks for Compulsory Education, aiming at the true effects of the passage-selecting system, working out the strengths and weakness of this book, giving reference to the practical use of this book. Many research methods are used in this dissertation such as data statistics and data analysis. It aims to analyze the selected passages and take some as examples. The following are some conclusions in this dissertation: (1) In this book the passages were not clearly classified with vague course roles; (2) Tough plenty of original classic articles are cited, the strategy on how to compile them was ignored; (3) The "model passages" clearly expressed the knowledge but failed in dynamic knowledge such as how to read, how to write, less Chinese language skills; (4)The aim of selecting passages was clear but some misdoings do exist; (5) The passages selected in this book has several course roles but too much means no stress; (6) Some selected passages failed in expressing the course roles.
