Beauvoir's Philosophical Idea Of Feminism

Women's liberation is one of important issue in contemporary social movement. By historically reviewed women's fate and plight, Beauvoir opened out the otherness from the proposition: "Woman is the other, not the one.", which become the key idea of Beauvoir's philosophy of feminism. Opposite structure of self and the other exist different levels of human life, so it is not strange that man and woman are opposites. Man is endowed the role of self and woman become the other. Feminie come into being herself according to masculine, so there are some relations between man and woman, such as subordination and master, object and subject, the other and self. Man is positive, normative and proper, but woman is passive, secondary and abnormal in cultural atmosphere of patriarchy. Ideology of man has molded woman, who become existence relative to man and absolutely obeyed by authority of man. Woman is defined as the other, which resulted in woman being "the second sex".Beauvoir opposed simplification interpretation of biology, depth psychology and economics about issue of situation. Although function of procreation gives woman more bondage, it is important that social values and attitudes make woman in oppressed situation. Procreation could not make woman be isolation, but the traditional institution make them disengage the society. So woman does rather than is.Different from view of Marxist feminism, Beauvoir emphasized the complicacy of oppressed woman and thought that there are many factors and institutes that lead to woman oppressed. When law system provides protection of women's liberation, the strength of tradition blocks this course. Abstract right could not protect the woman mastering the world, so the genuine equality do not come into being by now. Beauvoir pointed out that society reconstructing, woman participating social labour and building subject consciousness can make woman go to the one from the other.Based on Beauvoir's major work, the second sex, this thesis openedout the oppressed root of woman by Beauvoir's analysis about alienation of woman role, losing of woman's subject status and so on. In the course of evaluating Beauvoir's philosophical idea of feminism, deeply concerned for the fate of woman. Analyzing difference and homology between Marxism and Beauvoir's feminism view, help us scientifically master Beauvoir's feminism idea, which has important theoretical and practical values for developing Marxist feminism and directing women's liberation.
