A Teaching Survey About Chinese Color Words In High Schools

The boundless universe is in riotous profusion and blazing with colors. Everything in our life is varied and also bright with many colors. The world is beautiful for colors, life enchanting for colors. It is in order to describe varied colors in life and colorful things that humankind has produced a large number of color words, which has become important part of language vocabulary. The color words, all the time, are keeping on enriching and developing, full of energy. Not only can the color words express accurate, rich and vivid language, present the wonderful colorful world, but also from color words, we can learn their own cultural symbolic meaning and their own profound han nationality cultural psychology and emotional color. However, such rich color words are weak link in Chinese vocabulary teaching in high school, even become a corner long forgotten, especially was ignored their function. There are two reasons about it. On the one hand, we lack systematic theory research and have not made full use of their deep and wide beauty value. On the other hand, color words have been taught bit by bit, taking away from language situation in text. Their meanings of research on spoken language haven't been paid attentions to as well. So the colorful color words haven't brightened with varied colors in Chinese teaching in high school.Based on color words'research achievement, we carry on a rough teaching research on Chinese color words appearing in Chinese books of high school, combining the teaching methods of Chinese vocabulary with the view of culture linguistics. First, we classify and analyze Chinese color words in macroscopic and microcosmic way and explain their meanings and function. According to their syllabic numbers, color words can be divided into two categories: monosyllables and disyllables. Monosyllabic color words, that is, ones made up of only one syllable, are minority. Most of them are remains of old vocabulary, which could be made words on their own in old Chinese and simply or even never used in modern Chinese in most cases. Some of them can only be used to make words but most of them used in writing. Monosyllabic ones are the developing results from monosyllables to monosyllables and polysyllables. The way of their construction is flexible and diversified. We often see the type of combination, metaphor description and overlap. Secondly, I dissect and analyze the unique cultural function in some aspects, such as getting to know human society, following national culture, developing aesthetic temperament and strengthening expressing effect of spoken language. Especially color words'rich humanism intention plays a positive role in some ways. It has an influence on students'spirit field, helps them from Chinese accomplishment, develops their ability to hunt for information, broadens their vision, develops their intellectual resources,arouses their love for Chinese emotion, and develops healthy lofty aesthetic temperament and socialist ideological quality and foster patriotic value. Thirdly, I researched color words'teaching methods from meanings of their spoken language and tried to reflect unique cultural intension of han nationality from the angle of teaching in class.In Chinese teaching of high school, it is important and necessary to use color words'research achievement to instruct Chinese teaching practice in class. It has extended research field of culture linguistics, expanded their use value of research achievement in teaching, and enriched Chinese teaching content. And it has been beneficial not only improvement of Chinese teaching quality, but also to arousing students'feeling of love for national culture, even helpful for improving students'ability of comprehension and using Chinese.
