There is close relationship between affective factors and English teaching and learning. Affective factors in English teaching and learning include affective factors in textbooks, student's affect and teacher's affect. Student's affect refers to motivation, interests, self-esteem, anxiety, extroversion-introversion, inhibition and empathy and affect towards teacher; teacher's affect includes emotion towards English teaching and students.The author made an investigation into and a discussion of the reality of English teaching and learning in vocational school. In order to know the degree of awareness and practice of affective factors among teachers and students in vocational school, the author did some survey on 106 teachers and 413 students from vocational schools in Nanjing .The survey shows that, on the whole, the students don't have positive affect towards English learning. They have short-term motivation, and little interest in English. And their self-esteem in learning English is low. Through the analysis of the survey, I found that, although the teachers have realized the importance and necessity of using affective factors in English teaching and learning, very few of them have really put them into practice.
