In language learning,affective filter is a psychological barrier that prevents language learners from acquiring understandable input.In addition,learning motivation,attitude and behavior can also directly affect the learning effect.This is the same case in specialized courses of foreign languages.For a long time,the effect of Cabin English teaching in Shanghai Business & Tourism School is far from being satisfactory.If the teachers are unable to adjust their teaching methods in accordance with the students' mentality and their learning situations,it will have negative influence on students' growth and job hunting.How to help students learn Cabin English better and achieve the teaching objectives requires the teachers to start their teaching with affective teaching for the students.It is better for the teachers to understand the students' mentality and behavior in learning from the perspective of a student from vocational schools.Accordingly,they should find a specific teaching method to plan the course and to take into account the students' situation and feeling in their teaching,and help the students to reach their learning goals in a more effective way.Owing to the above-mentioned reasons,the author thinks that making full use of students' affective factors is a very good carrier to solve all these problems.If a teacher can apply affective teaching to the class of Cabin English,this practice may achieve two effective results simultaneously: the students can experience the wonderful teaching process and they can reach the proficiency level required by their future career.This paper has carried out the research in one of the vocational schools in Shanghai.The subjects come from Class One,Grade Two,all of whom are majors of in-flight service.This research adopts qualitative and quantitative research methods to explore how affective factors can motivate the students to learn Cabin English,to observe changes in students' learning motivation,attitude,behavior and test scores,and to develop a set of affective teaching strategies.This research finds that when affective factors are effectively applied,students' interest in learning can be stimulated,their testing scores after learning can be improved,and their correct learning attitude and motivation of learning can be kept.This paper is divided into five chapters.This first chapter is introduction,which introduces the background,purpose,significance and innovative points of the research and the structure of this paper.The second chapter is literature review,which explains the definition and elements of affective teaching,the functions it can serve in Cabin English teaching and the category of affective factors in English learning.This chapter also analyses the related research on affective teaching at home and abroad.The third chapter is research design,which includes the research questions,subjects,tools and procedure of the research and the collection and analytic method of data.The fourth chapter is research findings,which analyses the data collected in the research and illustrates how affective teaching influences the students' learning motivation,attitude,behavior and test scores.The final chapter is conclusion,which discusses the main findings and limitations of the research,the significance of the application of affective teaching to Cabin English teaching,and the suggestions for future study.
