Since 1999, a course reform has been carried out in China, which inevitably leads to thereform in entrance exam to senior high school. A series problems arise such as whether thepresent exam set embodies the new concept in middle school teaching and the nature of9-year obligated education in China, whether it motivates students in class, and whether itserves as a guidance to middle school teaching. An objective study is therefore necessary, dueto the fact that few research on this subject has been made. Here this thesis takes the Chineseexam paper in 2004 of Jilin province as the target to study and evaluate the reform in middleschool exam. This study is based on the multi-aptitude theory, constructional theory, education targetclassification theory, adopts the comparative approach and the methods of investigation andsurvey to make thorough study on the relationship between the object of Chinese exam andthe purpose of teaching in middle school;the change before and after the exam reform. Asample survey is made among 100 students taken from the Second Experimental MiddleSchool of Jilin Province, studying and comparing the contents of Chinese exam and Chineseteaching;the relationship between exam and high-quality person education;and finallycomparing and evaluating the exam paper. The natural conclusion is drawn as follows:Firstly, The Chinese exam under the new teaching and testing environment embodies theleading idea of designing to testify the ability of students, with the purpose of educating andtraining qualified expert in different fields for the social development in the new century;secondly, the Chinese test paper is designed in accordance with the teaching contents inmiddle school, which perfectly represents the leading idea of teaching reform carried out inmiddle school at the present time, therefore serves as a good guidance in middle schoolteaching;thirdly, the item difficulty of the test paper in 2004 is basically admitted moderate,with high reliability. Among the students surveyed, 40% of the students agree the test as"quite easy", and 15% of them think it "pretty difficult". Suggestions are made in this paper on the designing of exam paper of ancient Chineseand Chinese writing—by the thorough study and analysis on the Chinese Exam Paper tosenior high school in Jilin Province, that relevant materials of studied articles in ancientChinese should be tested;oral test should be supplemented;the testing of Chinese writingshould be reinforced by adding up the percentage that Chinese writing accounts for in thewhole test, and therefore, writing should be made the core in the test.
